Because it’s Merry Christmas not Happy Holidays

Please do not get me wrong. I love the Jews, I love the Muslims, Black people,  Yellow,  Brown whatever you got,  I like them- I love diversity.  Without differences we wouldn’t have ethnic jokes. Plus I live in New York City and have my whole life – you basically can’t be a racist (well you can be but only if you live in a far flung neighborhood in Queens or Brooklyn).  It makes no sense IN Manhattan to be racist. Lastly I come from a sweet mixed up background – Papa (that’s what we call him, but with a French accent) is a French Monarchist – Bronx Jew mix who was raised entirely Catholic and Mama (also in a French accent) is a Puerto Rican (who are an intrinsically mixed people as it is)

My point—oh yeah.  Basically,  I can say what I want when it comes to racially or ethnically insensitive things.  That brings me back to “Happy Holidays“  I hate it.  Whether we like it or not,  Christmas in the United States has lost any of it’s religious meaning.  It has nothing to do with Christians – and has everything to do with buying shit.  In fact I would venture to say it the ultimate American holiday.   Can we just get ride of the catch-all “Happy Holidays” crap?

Why are you getting so fire up?  Who really cares?  Well,  no one.  I get that.  It’s just that we complicate things all the time with extra words, new phrases, new terms etc.  Orwell was right in his book “1984″ except he got it backwards.  Instead of reducing the the dictionary with Newspeak we’re adding to it with “WeakSpeak”  Everything is losing it’s meaning.  Think about it?  Happy Holidays? What does that mean?  Can I use it at Memorial Day?  Can I say it to an English person when the go “on holiday”  It’s Merry Christmas because it the words MEAN SOMETHING.  Anyway.  I’m done. (and no I am not re-reading or editing, it’s my site dammit)

Because Every Blog Needs a Post

The first post is always the most important or is it the least imporant?  Who knows.  I´m trying to find my voice and theme here for Meowsplash what I am hoping for is that this blog/site/whatever the hell it is can be a place where anyone who wants to (or at least that I like) can post things talk about their loves or whatever.

Can I be like BlogHer without being a mom?

I suppose the model would be BlogHer (If you don´t know what it is look up) .  I love the idea of a federated site where people I know,  people I consider smart who might not have the wherewithall to start their own sites or content dumps could have a place to post their stuff.    Maybe we can break all the successful blog ¨rules” and simply post things and see what sticks?  If someone become more popular or is the better wrtter than good for them I´d  would never want to prevent someone for charging forward.

Itś like having a Gym buddy.

While I fool myself into believing I go to the gym -  if I had someone to go to the gym with it would be really helpful in actually getting there.  I think producing content is like that for me.  I am not such an egoist that I would write,  or can write that well or enough to satisfy a blog on my own. However,  as  group of people with different strengths and areas of expertise I think producing content could be fun.  Freed from corporate goals or needs for page views or unique visitors maybe,  just maybe fun could be had.  Like I said,  if I had a buddy to take me to the gym we all would push each other forward into breach.

Competition is good.

So I am sounding like a capitalist pig, so what?  Itś effective!  In some areas pure competition is good.  In sports,  in writing and in products pure competing delivers the best products.  If the  Meowplash collective can push each other with regards to posts,  comments or whatever metrics we want to compete on than weĺl have a good site or at least one we think is good.

What do you think?  Am I talking out of my anus?  Do you want to contribute?  Get involved.  Let me know.
